Reflecting on the recent knowledge exchange session I facilitated alongside other Volunteer Career Advisors from Workforce Singapore, I find myself in awe of the depth and intricacy of our discussions on career transitions. The insights shared by seasoned volunteer career advisors were truly inspiring, underscoring their wealth of knowledge on the subject.

A pivotal lesson that emerged was the acknowledgment of the individuality inherent in each person's career journey. It became evident that a one-size-fits-all approach falls short, prompting a profound exploration of the mindset shifts crucial for successful transitions and the significance of early readiness for the future.

An intriguing point surfaced during our dialogue: the debate between upskilling and leveraging existing skills when navigating career shifts. This sparked a captivating conversation about skill development, tailored to different career stages.

Moreover, we delved into the diverse challenges faced at various career levels—from entry to mid-level to senior positions. This emphasized the need for bespoke strategies and support systems catering to the distinct needs of individuals at each stage.

The effectiveness of career coaches in facilitating these transitions sparked a mixed response among us. As practicing coaches, some of us identified that often, the perceived issue presented might not be the root problem. Through coaching, we empower individuals to navigate their own path. There's also a concern about individuals offering superficial advice on CV writing or interviews, which are also important however, ,diluting the impact of serious career coaches that make a huge impact on transitions.

Overall, the event served as a testament to the potency of collective wisdom and shared experiences in manoeuvring the intricacies of career transitions. I am grateful for the invaluable insights gained and eagerly anticipate continuing these enriching conversations in the future. I would like to thank my other volunteers for accompanying me on this intellectual journey.

I would love to hear more from others on their experience in career transitions and what were your challenges or if you are contemplating a career transitions, what concerns do you have?
